The Chair of Management by Missions and Corporate Purpose is leading the development of tools for measuring and implementing purpose in organizations at corporate and personal level. These are some of the projects on which we focus our research:

Purpose Driven Organizations

OBJECTIVE:

The objective of this research consists of the analysis of the main existing theories and methodologies for the development of purpose in the company. As a central hypothesis of this research, we consider that the transcendent/ prosocial motivation of the members of the company plays a determining role in the development of the purpose of an organization, generating a three-dimensional conception of purpose based on knowledge, motivation and action.

DESCRIPTION:

Purpose is the raison d’être of an organization, its social contribution beyond making money. In this line of research, we work on how to define, develop and implement the purpose in organizations.

Personal Purpose at Work

DESCRIPTION:

In today’s corporate world, the idea of a personal purpose at work—a “why” to guide our efforts and dreams—is increasingly making its way into companies. By clarifying a purpose, people find greater meaning in their work, thus improving their motivation, efficiency, and ability to lead.

OBJECTIVE:

This research aims to present a model that explains the concept of personal purpose and what are the main processes that drive its development. It starts from the premise that purpose has three dimensions that form a single whole. The first, formal dimension, is related to the knowledge that each person has of his or her purpose, the second, dynamic dimension, to the practical realization of the purpose, and the third, motor dimension, to the motivation that drives the purpose.

Purpose Strength Project

DESCRIPTION:

This line arises from the collaboration between the Chair, University of Navarra, DPMC Foundation, Corporate Excellence with the purpose of generating knowledge based on empirical evidence about the relationship between variables.

OBJECTIVE:

The first objective of this line is the development of a diagnostic tool that allows to collect the feeling and thinking of the organization and to analyze the strengths, weaknesses and extract the most effective strategies to enhance the development of the purpose.

At the same time, we want to perform longitudinal analyses to understand how the organizational culture changes over time in a company that is implementing mission-driven management.

Sustainability and Purpose

DESCRIPTION:

The link between corporate sustainability and corporate purpose lies in their shared focus on long-term value creation and responsible business practices. When a company adopts sustainability as part of its purpose, it commits to considering the environmental and social impacts of its actions. In this context, sustainability becomes an integral component of a company’s purpose. It provides the guiding principles and framework for organizations to operate in a way that ensures the well-being of the planet and society, while contributing to their financial success.

OBJECTIVE:

This goal of research is to define a theoretical framework and develop a method to evaluate and measure the degree of actual implementation of sustainability in companies, according to a three-dimensional model. In this research we are also working to develop an instrument to empirically measure the degree to which the purpose is known, motivated and carried out.
